hx-chart – air-conditioning process in the data center more visible
“The hx-diagram is a fascinating and highly useful work tool.”
How do the relative and absolute humidity to the temperature? What is the latent and sensible cooling capacity, and which of them available in the data center? Why and when should humidifier be used?
These requirements have become more and more IT managers or data center manager sat apart. But some basic knowledge of air conditioning is required, especially if you will not rely 100 percent on the testimony of the product supplier and would like to. Because not every supplier is independent and objective, what is the nature of the thing.
An essential tool to help with visualization of climate processes is the hx-diagram, which was developed long ago by a Mr Mollier. If you understand the many lines and curves, even air can be easily explained technical events in the data center and next quilt also calculated.
The hx-chart visualizes the interaction between the air temperature and humidity, can hold.
The simplest derivation is certainly the reading of the following circumstances: 0 degree cold air can hold about 4 g of water per kg air (about 1.2 cubic meters), while 20 degrees air for more than 16 grams, so it can hold about 4 times the amount of water . This explains why there are severe thunderstorms in the summer with lots of rain in the winter is not.
Furthermore, we see that 15 degree warm air with relative humidity at 26 degrees 80prozentiger only 40 percent relative humidity has. And finally, is reflected in the way you add each cubic meter of air at 20 degrees and 30 percent relative humidity about 3 g water has to rise at a constant temperature the relative humidity at 50 percent.
Why do we need this information? It is about money that you wasted, when these relationships are not understood and interpreted!
Save money
Take, for example on, we have a server room air-condition with a simple split device that cools the heat exchanger to 3 degrees and the control temperature in the room is 24 degrees, 45 percent relative humidity. At this temperature continuously below the dew point and water (condensate) separated.
This effect can cost twice money as both the withdrawal of water energy costs as well as the tracking of the separated water by steam humidifier. The alleged investment deals for the cheapest air conditioner is operating to a trap.
Using a small counter-checks on the hx-diagram would have it at once and quickly calculate.
What was shown here with a relatively plastic example is, of course, for all climatic processes. You understand immediately why bring a temperature increase or other moisture window of saving energy and why the Cabinet is better than another.
Therefore I can only everyone who is responsible for air conditioning of data centers, suggest the hx-diagram to heart. It is a fascinating and extremely useful work tool.
