The Danfoss Group warns of a potential fire risk for refrigerators and freezers that have been made to 1994 or acquired. These devices can be equipped with a compressor, cause its so-called starter may have a spark and cause a fire can. Danfoss offers affected owners of such equipment a free replacement starter.
The Danfoss Group is a leading manufacturer of components for the drive, refrigeration and heating equipment. Last year, the company and the Danish Institute tested for consumer safety, some refrigerator fires. They noted that the aging process of the plastic that was used for the affected starter, can create sparks. can in some cases, the dust that often collects at the back of refrigerators or freezers, ignite. The risk increases with age of the refrigerator. Particularly vulnerable are refrigeration devices that are operated infrequently, especially if they are exposed to high humidity. Identification of affected devices
The compressors of refrigerators or freezers are located on the side or rear of the unit. Danfoss compressors have a yellow label to see the company logo (see picture). Affected are devices that were manufactured in 1994 or sooner or acquired (purchased used equipment may also later) as well as devices that have the model name in the first few letters T, F, N or S. Other Danfoss compressors are not affected. The group specifies that have been used for environmental reasons, after 1993, other housing materials for starter, for which there is no spark risk.
Free replacement of the affected parts of the device
Danfoss offers owners of affected refrigerators and freezers a free replacement starter for the compressor. Consumers receive detailed information on the website of the group.
